Carl Taege - Land Selections
Selection of Portion 30 - Parish of Albert

On 3rd Dec 1869 Carl Taege selected 40 acres in the District of Beenleigh County of Ward Parish of Albert upon payment of £1.0.0 first year's rent and £3.8.0 survey fee.  The property was Selection No 155 Portion 30.  The land was classed as 10 acres Agricultural and 30 acres 1st class Pastoral.  Research indicates Carl was a sugarcane farmer, although family stories indicate he may have also grown arrowroot.

On 5th Mar 1875 Friedrich Taege and Hans Wagner signed a declaration that Carl had resided on the selection for a period of five years and made improvements: "Fenced all round with a good and substantial three rail split fence."

On 22 Oct 1875 Carl applied to purchase the land and tendered the sum of £1.2.9 as the balance purchase money.  Issue of Deed of Grant was passed on 19 Jan 1876.  Carl mortgaged the property to Charles & Mary O'Reilly in 1882, release of which was obtained when he sold the property on 15 July 1885 to Michael Bruse.  The property changed hands many times over the years.  View Certificate of Title.

According to the Electoral Roll, Carl & family were at Alberton for 29 years.  They moved to nearby Stegelit in 1898, the year after Juliane died.  It seems likely they were here for a further 23 years.  In 1921 Carl was shown on the Electoral Roll as living at Kelvin Grove, Brisbane.  He would have been approaching 80 yrs of age.
